Team Resource Management

Team Resource Management

Human. Factors. Training.

Human Factors Training. Team communication on highest level: Always the right decisions under uncertainty,  fast and safe. Methodical. Motivated. Masterful.

  • Fast and safe decisions
  • Following the example set by high reliability organizations

Life-threatening circumstances ask for special measures. This is what you can adopt.

Human Factors Training derives from Crew Resource Management, which has its origin in aviation. Flight accident data show that in almost any accident the air crew has sufficient knowledge and competence – it is a lack of non-technical skills and miscommunication that lead to the disaster. In order to prevent such undesired events, any flight crew has to participate in an annual and mandatory CRM training.

Over the years Human Factors Training and Team Resource Management attract increasing attention: Hospitals, fire brigades, alpine guides and crew of naval cruise ships accelerate and improve their non-technical skills based on the NASA CRM model – that if the emergency occurs they can handle it expeditiously and efficient. The fire brigades in Munich and Nuremberg are also trained by our team as many paramedics in several emergency trauma rooms throughout Germany.

One question remains unanswered: Why should only team members of high reliability organizations profit from expeditious, efficient and process improving communication? Outstanding communication is an advantage for any organization in todays aggravated competition – not only for high reliability organisations.

The Basis: 4 non-technical Skills

The basis are four Non-Technical Skills

In order to take fast and correct decisions the focus lies on four non-technical skills:

  • Situation Awareness: Are all necessary information present? Are they confirmed and evaluated?
  • Decision Making: Based on the situation awareness of each individual team member how are decisions made?
  • Cooperation: What skills and prerequisites are necessary for a prosperous cooperation?
  • Leadership & Followership: Does every team member know and understand the task? Is every person ready to support the team to the maximum extent possible?

Therefore our Human Factors Training addresses

  • The skill of clear and precise communication
  • A proactive and anticipatory behaviour, based on the task knowledge and the responsibility of every team member.
  • The skill of gathering relevant information and develop a shared mental picture.
  • Mutual attention to give personalized feedback in order to improve oneself.
  • Leadership behaviour including the topics of guidance and cooperation, motivation, performance appraisal and transparent use of information.
  • The basis for logic and comprehensible decision.

If it works in a real case emergency, it should do just fine for the daily routine. Crew resource management improves communication and procedures. Your team will benefit from conscious, open-minded and confident cooperation.
